Sorry if this is the wrong section, but I just exchanged my 3GS under warranty, so it's brand new and came with 3.1.3. I know once I upgrade to 4.0 I can't ever downgrade, and both 3.1.3 and 4.0 can be jailbroken/unlocked. Which is more desirable? Thanks

I would leave it at 3.1.3 and let the buyer decide. Like you said there is no going back, but it is easy for the buyer to move up.

Doesn't matter which OS is on the phone. You can downgrade to OS 3 from iOS4 with "recboot" software.

The majority of people looking for the 3GS know what to do with the phone that's in iOS4 mode and will downgrade it.

Tagging on his question, if you upgrade further then 3.0 does it mess with the baseband which disables it's ability to unlock to tmobile etc?

Yes it does upgrade the baseband, but the new 0.93 ultrasn0w can unlock ANY baseband. So no worries.

I upgraded my 3GS to 4.0-big mistake

I upgraded my 3GS to 4.0 and then, a week or so later got the new iP4. When I went to sell my 3GS I had a TON of buyers until they found out it was upgraded 4.0. I could have gotten as much as $350 but ended up having to sell it for $265. Others have had better luck than I did but here in Dallas craigslist, iphone 3GS is everywhere so there just isn't much of a sellers market here.

Keep it on 3.1.3 for the buyer and let them decide! I don't think 4.0 is unlockable yet and that's exactly what the buyer may be looking to do. Just make a note saying that it is running 3.1.3 and that once upgraded to 4.0 it cannot be downgraded and that's why you're leaving it up to the buyer. It's worth more with a lower baseband.

Was it unlocked? People might have been concerned it couldn't be unlocked on 4.0, even though now it can.

I ended up selling both my 32gb 3GS and my wife's old 16gb 3G on fleabay. Both were upgraded to 4.0 which I subsequently jailbroke with the latest redsn0w. I gave full disclosure in my ads that both were running iOS4 and were jailbroken, both sold within a couple of hours of posting. The 3G, I THINK I was able to unlock using Cydia and repo666.ultrasn0w. The software showed it had been unlocked. I listed in the description exactly what I had done and that I was not entirely sure if it was truly unlocked or not since I didn't have another carrier's SIM to try in it. There are definitely buyers out there, I just like to use full disclosure

Great, thanks. Mind if I ask how much you got for them?
