I have heard of problems with selling iPhones and the phone still being linked to your account for iMessage.

If I do nothing to the Apple Replacement I should be fine right?

Also the phone should be unlocked as my last one was, at the moment I have no way of checking this (no spare sims) but since now iPhones are set up in a different way on the first start up, is there a way to be sure and then perhaps reset the phone so that the buyer gets the first time start up for settings etc?

Thanks

I think if you give the phone a full reset with no SIM card in, you'll be fine.

I have gotten one replacement 4 in the past two months and a 4S last month. The 4 is still in use by my brother and I have seen no issues with iMessage sending and receiving my messages to the old 4.

I have also read about these issues you're talking about, here.

Good news too, Macworld has reported there is a solution solution. All you have to do is set a SIM PIN.
