Selling current iPhone before Friday, any problems?

Couple of rookie questions probably...

1. Can I unlock my iPhone and still have it work on the AT&T network for a few days?

2. Can I sell my iPhone to someone before Friday and have no problems upgrading to the 3G iPhone? I will of course synch over my files, etc to my Mac.
