I’m trying to sell a MacBook Air and the potential buyer is asking to see the invoice or the serial number.
It’s my first time selling one and I assume this is to prove that I didn’t steal the MBA.
Can someone do shady things with the serial/invoice - or is this a perfectly reasonable request that’s to be expected?

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I’m a little confused about it 😅

Please ignore, I found a similar thread that answered the question.
Basically, give it out because of you’re in the same situation, wouldn’t you think it’s shady if someone wasn’t willing to give it out?
And it seems one cannot do much with that number, anyway.

Do not give out any serial numbers, that's valuable information especially when accessed inside Apples database proving that the computer indeed belongs to you

With serial numbers anybody can access information, AppleCare, services, etc concerning your Apple computer/device
