OK - im selling my MacBook and in trying to delete all data.

I'm currently on 10.7.5, when i try to load the original install discs that came with it in 2009, i get a message saying " you can't use this version of the application Install Mac OS X with this version of Mac OS x - you have to install Mac OS X 23.1.

????????

PLs can you help me?

Thanks

It sounds like you tried to run the install DVD while still running on Lion?

Insert the DVD then reboot and hold down the C key as it starts. That should boot you to the installer DVD. Once it boot start Disk Utility and select the disk itself at the top and erase the disk. Then quit Disk Utility and reinstall the original OS.

Thanks - that started to work, but then i got an error stating that i could't install on to the new SSD i now have fitted......going round in circles???

Hi,

do you have formated / partitionned your new SSD ?

If not, boot on the install DVD.
After choosing the language, go in menu bar to Utilities / Disk utility

1. Erase tab : Erase the disk.

2. Partition tab : change "Actual" for "1 partition"
Format : Mac OS extended (journaled)
Click "Options" : GUID partition table

3. Apply

Quit Disk utility.

Install Snow Leopard.

Hi - the SSD was fitted professionally and they re installed OX 10.7 on it,

I'm now wanted to safely sell it, im told the best way is to wipe the disc and I'd need to install the original discs on the relatively new SSD.

How do I know if its formatted or not??

I think i'll just remove myself as a user and insert a new admin

Ok, so if you have 10.7 on it, it is already formated.

But with 10.7 installed, you can not install a previous OS, hence the message you got.

So, boot on the install DVD, go to Disk Utility and erase the WHOLE disc (not only Macintosh HD), so that the Lion partition AND the (hidden) Recovery partition will be erased.

Then use the "partition" tab as explained above.
Quit Disk utility and install.
