I wasn't having much luck with my google searching skills for this, so I thought I would try and ask here. I replaced my wife's mid-2009 Macbook Pro with a rMBP for Christmas, and now I was going to do a wipe/reinstall of the old machine to sell it. Is there any useful reason for me to keep 10.8 on there, or should I go ahead and put 10.11 and call it a day? It is on the latest point release, 10.8.5.

My understanding is that 10.8 is no longer going to receive security updates as of this month, so that lead me towards putting 10.11 on there, but I wasn't sure if someone would value having the older OS X on there given the age of the machine. Thanks in advance.

My suggestion: wipe/reinstall and keep 10.8 on there. The buyer will determine to upgrade to 10.11 or not depend on his/her need. The upgrade is free and easy.
