Selling old iPhone 3G question...

So since I've upgraded to iPhone 4 I've decided to sell my old iPhone on ebay. Most of the ones I've seen have been unlocked on there, my old contract was o2, will the phone still be locked to that network? And if yes is there a way to officially unlock it or will I have to jailbreak it?
