Bit of a random question but my job involves tons of video editing and rendering and most is done on my PC with a 3090 card.
I ordered a fully specced out M1 Max (£4100) as need to up my work work rate but didn't want another similar spec PC due to the size, heat and lack of parts available so got the 16" MBP.

Performance wise, its pretty good and am happy with it. No match for the PC but gets closer in render times that i was expecting and absolutely blows away my 16GB M1 13" MBP.

The dilema I have though is that I don't need, or want a laptop (only use bigger external monitor, keyboard, mouse) and don't need any portabilty but the MBP is the only option to me right with enough performance and small footprint now until Apple release the new Mac Mini or Pro.

I thought Apple products held their value quite well but as I'm looking to sell my 13" M1 MBP that cost £1699 just one year ago, most of the online places that buy used Macs (Including Apple trade-in) aren't even offering half the price I paid for it which surprised me as all my Iphones I've sold in the past got decent money.
Ebay is hit and miss and Facebook Market is just full of scammers so don't really want to use them.

Getting to the point.. how well do you think prices will hold up on maxxed out 16" MBP's when Apple release a new (non laptop) mini/pro?
Obviously, I could do with the extra machine right now as its making me money but I still have the option of sending it back for another 25 days or so and waiting and hoping that Apple bring something else out soon (with as much or more power).

My biggest fear is keeping this expensive laptop and Apple bringing out something in Q1 next year, then find myself trying to sell the high priced MBP on without taking a big loss on it.

I think you can plan on taking a minimum of a $300 to $500 loss. These are mass produced items and while they do hold their value pretty well I wouldn't expect to not take a decent hit on it when you sell it. That also depends on how widely they are available next year. The spec'd out models are a little more difficult to get right now but that will undoubtably improve Q1 of next year.
