I've never done one of those "ship it off for cash" deals and wonder about the legitimacy. An Apple Store rep directed me here...so I have to assume there wouldn't be any shady deals going on with this. Any experiences?

Yes, they are like Gazelle. You send in your computer, they'll inspect it and give you cash for it. If you've installed any third party hardware parts (extra ram, ssd, etc.) you'd want to sell it yourself because most of the time they will not pay more for 3rd party upgrades. I have a Mac Mini 120gb ssd and 1tb drive that are Samsung aftermarket and they only want to give $250 for it... I could easily get $150 or more selling it myself.
