I have an iPhone since the beggining. Well, I lost the original SIM card and got a new one from ATT, and when tried to use it with the phone, it didn't work, so I had to activate the phone using iNdependence, and it worked fine. The funny thing is that I couldn't use the SIM card of my Razor Phone, wich has also service with ATT... When the iPhone had the Razor's card inside, I got some alert saying that the card was not correct...
Well, the day before yesterday, I restored the phone and updated the firmware to 1.1.1. I know it was a little stupid to do that, but the point is that I did that because I hoped the new software would allow me to activate the phone, and that never happened.
[Of course in the middle of all these issues I had endless calls with Apple's and ATT's customer service, and they didn't fix anything...]
Yesterday I went to ATT and they tested the SIM card and redirected me to the Apple Store, because the SIM card was working fine (they tested it in a different phone)...
So, I went to Apple, and they asked me if I had modified the phone, and I told them "of course not". So, after some other tryings there, they could realize what was wrong with the phone and decided to give me a new one.
Once I left the Apple Store, I swapped the SIM cards of my two phones and, voila...! The telephone is working with both cards!!! Is not that funny? The guys at Apple gave me a semi-unlocked iPhone for free...
Today I'm going to buy a T-Moblie card to see what happen... Who knows... Perhaps the iPhone is fully unlocked. As soon as I make the experiment, I'll tell you the result...
