Are there any decent semi-rugged ipad air cases? Not quite the bulk of the Otterbox but a good amount of fall protection.

some would disagree but in my opinion there are 2 types of cases

1. to protect against falls (otterox or defender type cases)
2. to protect against scratches(everything not bulky)

the bulk is what protects against the fall

Yeah, seems to be a huge gap between the two.

OK, I know this is a long-shot, but here is one off-the-wall case to consider.

When I am at home I go with a smart-cover and a back case. Very light and thin.

But when I travel and my rMini goes into a briefcase, onto plane tray tables, etc, I go with a Twelve South BookBook. Not as heavy as you might think. Rather thick, but thin as far as real books go.

Pluses include very good dust protection, and very adjustable viewing angles.

I was looking at that. Does it add considerable weight to the ipad?

I have this case. It's just sitting in my closest collecting dust now. Since I ripped out the screen protector that came with it, I can't return it. It does add some bulk and weight to the Ipad air. It does feel like it would survive a fall from waist high.

I returned my Ipad Air for the Mini Retina. It's a nice case, cheaper then the Defender and just as good.

I have the Griffin Survivor for my iPad 3 and I can't imagine a case offering more protection than that. Ideal if you're putting it in a bag or taking it out of the house.

I bought a Lifeproof Nuud case (with matte screen protector) for my Retina Mini it's used more indoors and it offers good protection without adding much weight or bulk. Just not cheap.

Check out my post on the Spigen Tough Armor case.

Thin and light weight.

Only 2 complaints I have is the case "pushes" my screen saver up in the corners. And the silly Apple hole in the back.

For the money this is a "hard case" to beat. :D

The tough armor is not made for the iPad air.

I bought Poetic DuraBook Slim Case and I love it. It is light weight, slim design(less than 1/2 inch), flexible view angles, smart cover. totally wroth the price.
