Sending MacBook in for repairs. What to do?

My MacBook has been randomly going to sleep and I finally got around to having Applecare send me a box. I was wondering if any of you had some tips for sending it in. I was planning on wiping the HD and reinstalling OS X so that none of my stuff is on there. I was also going to put a note in there for whoever is going to do the fixing. The only thing they know is that it has "heat-related issues". How about something like a ten-dollar tip?

If you don't want Apple to have access to your information, then I would reinstall OS X just to protect yourself. When I used to work for Apple in Manchester, UK, the Geniuses used to look through the music collections of the customer. Personally, I would wipe it.

As for the $10 tip, it's mighty generous of you. I'm not sure they expect it from you though.

I know they wouldn't expect it, which is why I would do it. They might feel even more inclined to make sure my computer gets back to its old self.

Don't know if the tip will do any good, but I would definitely do an "Erase and Install" ..

I fix quite a lot of computers, and well yeah. I always grab the music off there .

Definitely do an erase and install. Just make sure to backup first. I would leave a note as well.

What did they (AppleCare) recommend? Would the "erase-Install" alleviate the problem? Wouldn't you want to send it in as is, this way you would want to reproduce the "same situation" for them? Sorry, but I've never sent my BlackBook to Apple for work. If you back up your MB, I wouldn't worry too much about my iTunes Library. IMHO.

I've never used a credit card or anything on this computer so I'm not worried about them stealing sensitive information. The AppleCare representative didn't recommend anything specific, they just asked for my username and password. I have a TM backup and I don't really care about them looking at my iTunes library. I may just leave it as-is and include a note.

Edit: I'll probably do an erase and install and then try to recreate the problem myself. If I can't, I'll restore my TM backup. Thanks for the tips.
