Does anyone know if this is possible?

I took a photo on my iPhone 12, then edited it and changed it to black and white. On my iPhone, at a later date, I can go in and recover the colour. But on the version I airdropped to my friend's iPhone 12, the extra data has been dropped - when they edit it, no colour is recoverable. In effect, my version was a sort of 'raw' and their version is not. Is it possible to transfer the raw version to my friend for editing? Thanks!

In normal photo editing software, once a raw has been edited, it generally gets saved as a side car to the RAW. When you want to send it on you export as a different type of file. SOme allow further editing of the raw edits you did, some dont.

I’m not sure how it works on an iPhone though. I would say it would flatten to a jpeg or HEIC after editing if you share it. However, if you airdrop the original, it will probably send the RAW.

A way round this whole thing is to use a software with an ‘export as’ function, such as lightroom. Then you know who’s getting what etc.
