Sending voice messages via Messages

I sent some voice messages to somebody by recording them directly in the Messages app. They initially displayed in the messages thread, though they all seem to disappear after some time. Why do they no longer show within the thread? Are they recorded anywhere else to the phone? Is there some other way of getting a copy of them?

In settings, messages, scrolling down will take you to an audio message setting. You can choose 2 mins, or 30 days. Default is 2 mins. I don't believe they're stored somewhere you can access them easily. They may be cached somewhere for a bit then they're gone.

Settings > Messages and look for Audio Messages.

I have the options of "2 minutes" and "never."

I think it's based on your Message History setting.
