sent counter in mail

Why do i have a counter at the side of the word sent in mac mail,at the moment it's at 185 and i can't seem to find out how to stop it;i have only 2 accounts AOL and iCloud

In all my years using Apple Mail ive never had a counter next to 'sent'.
Not sure if this will work, but you could try highlighting the sent folder & then clicking on Mailbox in the Mail menubar and then clicking on Rebuild. At least it won't harm trying this.
