I have run 2 accounts on mac OS X for years and years; the first account created is the Admin account by default. The second account is a standard account and is the one I use every day. It has all my email configured and owns all my files, music, ... Is this practice still considered necessary? Should I impose/suggest this practice to friends and relatives?

Since I first started using OS X in 2004, I've always used an administrative account.

I've never had any problems doing so.

However -- if you're going to set up Macs for "less experienced" folks, having them use regular (i.e., "non-administrative") accounts might keep them out of trouble.

I set up my sister's MacBook that way, seems to work well enough for her.
