Separate settings for external monitor and laptop screen?

Hey all I have a question for you. I currently jump back and forth between using my retina macbook as a laptop and putting it on a dock with a 34" ultra wide lg monitor. As you can imagine the 3440x1440 monitor is a lot bigger so I have far more room to stretch windows out etc. The problem is when I jump back and forth between them the windows are WAY too big when using my retina screen and tiny when I plug it back into my external. Is there any way to make the windows recognize the settings based on external or internal?
