A while back I switched a external drive from being plugged directly into the USB port of my mac to being plugged into the USB port of a Time Capsule, now accessed via wireless network.

When the disk was plugged directly to computer Spotlight would find files with the serch string contained within the body of the document.

Now it doesn't do this (it will only find file names).

Is this standard behavior of disks connected to a Time Capsule ir am I missing something?

Thanks.

It's standard behaviour of network disks, because indexing and searching all file contents requires a lot of bandwidth. That's just the way it is.

Is there a search utility that will enable me to search for content in files across a network then?

(I've got about 5'000 PDF files that I would like to be able to do a simple search of key words or strings)

Thanks.
