My ipod was stolen out of my vehicle. it was an older one that i have had for years - and i don't have any of the original packaging. It's not worth a lot but it has sentimental value. To get it listed in the police registry of stolen items i have to have the serial number. is there a way to access that info from Itunes (which the ipod had previously been synced with) without the device attached?

Look for the com.apple.iPod.plist file in Macintosh HD / Users / YOU / Library / Preferences / and open it in TextEdit and look for the Devices header.

admitting i know enough to make me dangerous.... i opened that page in text edit and its all pretty technical with no "headers" any suggestions? any specific string i should be looking for?
