I am looking buying a used macbook pro. The serial number on the case is different than the serial number that shows in the about this mac. I am new to mac and did not know if the software serial number is always different.

No they should be the same. However if the previous owner messed up their case and bought a used bottom on E-Bay, that would explain it.

SHOULD I BE SCARED TO PURCHASE. THE GUY SAYS THAT HE BUYS USED AND REFURBS AND RESELLS THEM. HE IS OFFERING MBP i7 dual core, 2.67mhz, 8 gigs of ram, high res anti glare screen, and 500gig hdd. i have priced the similar i7 quad core and they are over 2k. he wants 1700

IMO not worth it ... I would look at a re-furb from Apple
