I am hoping to buy an iMac at some time in the future,
ive seen here on some posts the mention of the serial numbers
and how if you know how to read them they can give you
Information on your Mac, I know the info must be here some where
but still can't find it , so can some one please point me in the right direction
so when I do get my Mac, I will be able to decipher the serial number..?

Thanks ... Siam

The first 5 characters of your mac's serial no tells you the place it was made (1 and 2), Year (3) and week (4 and 5).

Your number will probably look something like this: W8743xxxxxxx

W8: Shanghai China
7: 2007
43: week 43

F: Fremont, California
CK: Cork, Ireland
SG or E: Singapore
UV: Taiwan
QT: Taiwan (Quanta Factory)
W8: Shanghai China
PT: Korea

Thanks Kirk

are there any more country codes.. other than ..

F: Fremont, California
CK: Cork, Ireland
SG or E: Singapore
UV: Taiwan
QT: Taiwan (Quanta Factory)
W8: Shanghai China
PT: Korea

..... ?

Nice... However, none of those country codes do me any good. My serial number is prefixed with a G :)

Mine, too... What Country Code is "G" ??

Mine is a Mac Mini. Unlike all the other Mac's that I CTO'd, this one did not ship direct from overseas...it shipped from Cupertino. Yeah, I suppose it could have come on a pallet and then be split and shipped. But does Apple actually manufacture any systems in Cupertino?
