Hello folks. Last night I upgraded my S4 watch to watchOS 7.1

Ever since, silent mode is broken for Siri responses to shortcuts. No matter how many times I toggle 'control with silent mode' in settings, or how many times I restart both the phone and the watch, Siri voice responses ignore silent mode. So for example, "Hey Siri turn the lights off" is now always audibly responded to with "done" or "ok" whether or not silent mode is enabled.

Anyone else?

Thanks. At least I’m not alone. It’s irritating since my watch is always on silent and I don’t need audible confirmation that the light just came on 🙄

Same here. I have tried setting the Siri response on both the phone and the watch Settings to Headphones Only, but I still get audible feedback when I invoke Siri on my S4, even when not connected to headphones or anything else. Irritating.

It may well be a design choice in 7.1 but I'm very much hoping it's a bug, as I find it jarring and unnecessary. Silent Mode should mean silent. Best to submit Apple feedback in any case.

S5, confirmed this a defect. Do they bother to test this stuff ? Siri just shouted out at me and I've dug in to confirm the setting which is supposed to follow silent mode but is not.

Be sure to submit feedback. These things happen but this one does seem like quite a large oversight. Tne more people complain the more likely this will be addressed in the next update.

Still broken in 7.2. Probably forever.

Wonder what else that used to work now doesn’t...

Having the same issue as all of you - imperfect solution I have found is to lower Siri’s response volume to zero (same location as the other toggles for Siri in the Watch app). If you are in a quiet room you’ll still hear a muffled whisper responding but it’s better than her scream-confirming a reminder to “call the doctor about that weird rash.”

Couldn't find this anywhere until now. Still broken. Can't believe it's been this long and it's not just my model.
