Initial reports of the series 5 battery life were poor. But I'm always wary of initial reports because brand new devices aren't getting real world testing. People use them more and look for issues. So now that we're a few months in, how is the battery life of the Series 5? How long is it lasting for people? Apple lists 18 hours, which is pretty disappointing, but it also lists the Series 3 as 18 hours, and I get a LOT more than that out of it.

I wear my Series 3 for 23 hours of the day. I wear it at night for a silent alarm. So I'm interested in the idea of the Series 5 getting that kind of battery life. When people say "My series 5 lasts a day", is that 7am until 10pm? Because that's not any good to me. The Series 3 gets 2 days if you do no exercise, and still easily a full day (23 hours) with a lot of running in.

So what are peoples experiences with the Series 5?

without any workouts i can go with AW5 as long as 2 full days of battery life.

with 1 or 2 workouts it lasts 1 full day. AW 3 and AW5 roughly the same battery life my guess.

I just returned from a camping trip with my students, where the Apple Watch series 5 was on my wrist for ~18 hours a day.

Anecdotally, it ended the day with about 22% battery life. Passively tracking workouts while managing notifications and the odd app here and there.

My friend using the series 3 still had 71% battery life.

Looks like the AoD does come with a price, though I am not sure I can go back to an Apple Watch without one at this point.

I have the 42mm variant of the 3. Here’s my most recent result:

1/9 6 AM: unplugged, 100%
1/11 1 AM: began to charge, 57%

The first 3 days of use the s5 battery was not that good. Since then, I have been able to get at least 18 hours of use before needing to charge my cellular model.

infograph face with everything turned on. BAR is selective for certain apps.

Workout: 2.5 - 3hrs a day

mine is fine now after issues at the start...with 40 min workouts at the end of a 16-17 hour day it is on 30% by time I go to bed.

My battery life with my brand-new S5 on watchOS 6.0.0 was pretty awful. Since 6.0.1, however, it's been as good as my S3 and S4 were on watchOS 5.x.

I've had mine now 5 months and I never think twice about battery level. It's not even a complication on any of my watch faces. I've got more than enough to get me though an entire day from waking up at around 5:30 am to going to sleep at 11 pm, even with my daily workouts of 30 min. minimum, up to 60 minutes. And that's with essentially all features turned on with the sole exception of the noise meter (which I don't really have an interest in given my environments).

The best feature of the S5 for me. Battery life is either on par with or a day better on charge compared with my Series 3.
