Hey everyone, I'm thinking about getting the series 5 this fall, but the caveat is that I have an iPhone 6 which will not be getting support for iOS 13. As you know, the series 5 will be on Watch OS 6, which requires iOS 13.

My question is, does anyone know if I can pair the series 5 with Watch OS 5 instead? I don't mind staying 1 version behind for 1 year. I plan to upgrade my iPhone in 2020 anyways, but just for this one year, I'm hoping to stick it out.

You can be sure that there will be no way to run WatchOS 5 on a series 5 watch; it’ll be the same as trying to run iOS 12 on a new iPhone.

Sorry, but I’m almost 100% certain that it won’t be possible. Your options are to get a Series 4 before the WatchOS 6 public release happens (as the Series 4 will probably start shipping with WatchOS 6 shortly after), or upgrade your phone (6s or newer will likely be needed for the Series 5).
