I upgraded from a Series 2 to a Series 5, and as before I have a passcode enabled, wrist detection enabled, and unlock-with-iPhone enabled. The unlock-with-iPhone feature has been very inconsistent, though. Sometimes I'll put my watch on, unlock my phone, then some time later I'll look down and notice the watch it still locked, and have to re-unlock my phone for the watch to unlock. Most worrying, though, is that sometimes I'll find the watch to be unlocked when it really shouldn't.

For instance, this morning I took the watch off its charger and put it straight into my gym back. A couple hours later I took it out of the gym bag and found that it was unlocked, and I could use apps. I thought "oh, maybe I accidentally had it in my palm, which it detected as my wrist, and had my phone unlocked", but then remembered that my phone was locked and in a different room. I never had a problem like this with the Series 2, so this is pretty concerning.

Anyone one else having problems with this?

Haven't seen it. Only time I've ever seen my S5 (or prior generation) lock while on my wrist is if I had made it so loose it thought it'd been taken off. (such as applying sunscreen). Have never seen an unlock on its own.

Your title is misleading though.

Unless you've been running WatchOS 6 on your S2, you have zero idea whether your issue is due to the OS or due to the watch model.

S5 40mm here and I am having issues with the iPhone unlocking the watch.

This is so inconsistent it’s laughable, I’ve had to lock/unlock my phone several times before it unlocks the watch. Beyond a joke.
