Series 5 watchOS 6 and 12 Pro Max

I have the Series 5 GPS with watchOS 6. I am unable to pair it with my 12 Pro Max running iOS 14.1 without updating my watch to watchOS 7.1.

Is there anyway to pair it with my 12 Pro Max without updating the watch? I do not want to lose force touch on watch.
