My Series 6 watch has just recently had problems with battery life, and the battery health on the watch states "service recommended".

I took it to the Apple Store and they ran diagnostics, confirmed the battery needs replacement, however they did not have the ability to replace the battery. I had expected they would be able to do a battery service for $99, seems like I saw that price on the Apple Support website at one point, but it didn't seem to be possible.

I ended up purchasing a new watch but I would like to keep this one as a backup even with degraded battery life, so I'm going to do that.

My question for the forum here is this - isn't there a way to get battery service on a Series 6?

They don't do a replacement in store. The "battery service" is them replacing it with a refurbished S6.

As Howard2k said you'll get a refurb S6. It will have a new battery and be like new.
If you want to have the S6 as a backup that's dependable you might as well have Apple send you a refurb for $99.

As others have said you can have the watch replaced with a remanufactured "like new" watch for $99. Apple doesn't replace the battery, they replace the watch so it's a fair deal. One thing to remember, since the watch isn't being replaced under warranty the SPo2 sensor on your replacement will be disabled.. Not sure if it matters to you, but something to consider.

I'm not sure they will still do the battery replacement / swap for $99 - Apple Store didn't offer that choice, and when I contacted Apple via chat they also did not give that as a clear alternative. I may try another chat this weekend and see if that is available, and if so then i'll go ahead and do the swap since it will get me a watch that will have a new battery and will be a good backup.

I will be sending my Series 6 in for a replacement tomorrow (battery service). I just selected that option on Apple’s website.

Just got my new Series 6. From the moment I drppped the watch off at the UPS service point it took less than 48 hours until I had my replacement watch, despite both the old and new watches traveling across Europe. Overall a very smooth process that cost the standard (equivalent of) $99.
