Do any of you guys also have a new aw6 in graphite or have had a space black aw? I noticed some very minor scratches in my aw6 graphite despite the dlc coating. They are only visible under certain angles and under direct light, almost not visible but there. Could they have been there from the start? I am very careful with my watch, odd enough..

Its stainless steel, so its going to get those surface scratches. The Space Black gets them too, they are just more difficult to see due to the black hiding them. There isn't much you can do here besides just letting it happen because its going to happen.

I doubt your watch arrived from the factory with scratches. (And this is coming from somebody that’s owned over 6 stainless Apple Watches) I’ve never had an Apple product arrived pre-damaged. Also, Apple has tight quality control with their product line, which you can also tell by how they package everything. In your case, I would question if you came in contact with anything maybe that you didn’t know or inadvertently hit the watch on something, (I.e-like a granite countertop or stainless grill for example). The DLC is very difficult to scratch, but it is doable under the right conditions.

My first stainless steel watch arrived with scratches back in 2015 and I swapped it out. I change my watch every year and never had an issue with any watches from the factory since then. I think the DLC coating is a bit like the sapphire glass and is virtually bulletin proof. I’ve banged and bashed my SS, SSSB and ceramic Apple watches so many times over the years but never had a problem with the glass or casing being damaged.
However over the years there have been people that have posted problems with scratching the sapphire glass and DLC coating saying that they haven’t bashed it against anything so nothing is indestructible.
I think that it’s the luck of the draw really and although people say that they haven’t knocked their watches it can so easily be done without actually knowing it. You could take a watch with a DLC coating and scrape it against the wall and it will show no damage whatsoever but you could then take another watch with a DLC coating and do exactly the same and it could be permanently marked. Why that would happen is beyond me as the coatings would be the same but some people get away with bashing their watches damage free and some people don’t
