It was suggested in another thread that the ”blue” Apple watch wouldn’t pair well with too many watch bands, while my response was that a dark blue (“Deep Navy”) in this case, is still pretty neutral and should actually pair very well with most colors.

So I did a quick and dirty look at the blue watch with a variety of colorful, currently available bands...I actually really like the red with it, which I initially thought might be one of the colors that wouldn’t work well with it. Also, I actually wish there was a brighter green band available, though I’m sure there has been a sport band in the past in a lime color.

Things I got from this little exercise:

1) Crap. There are more bands that I want now.

2) I was reminded that Apple isn’t introducing new colors frivolously— they’ve taken care in color selection so that these coordinate well. Because these are expensive enough that people are going to generally wear the same watch most of the time, they do need to be neutral enough to not clash too badly with a variety of clothing— the band is an opportunity to both customize as well as make more $$ ;)

3) I am guessing I will like most all of my watch bands— at least those with color— more with the Deep Navy than I do with my black watch.

Of course, everyone has their own preferences and the blue certainly may not be to everyone’s liking.

I like the blue. I’m hoping it’s the blue for the rumored next iPhone. I didn’t get it because I wear a ton of navy clothing and figured it would be too much blue.

I suspect you may be right about the color also being available with the iPhone 12.

Also interesting: if you use the Apple Watch Studio (in the apple store app) to preview different case / band combinations (as I did for the above experiment), and you select the (PRODUCT) RED case, it will only preview it with (PRODUCT) RED bands.
