Hi all. I’m looking to purchase my 1st AW this year and am currently debating which one to purchase - the S6 or the S7.

What I’m mainly interested in is the health monitoring capabilities. That means either the S6 or S7 will do. As newer watches are released with upgraded health capabilities, I’ll most likely upgrade the watch and use the older one as a sleep tracking device.

My instinct tells me to go with the S6; as long as they are still available upon S7 release, the price should drop (at least a little bit) and the slight differences between the two series are not, in my book, game changers.

What are your guys’ and gals’ thoughts?

The S6 won’t be sold by Apple but you’ll be able to get them from a retailer probably at a good discount. If it’s your first one and money matters, the S6 probably makes more sense for you.

Go to S7 unless S6 has a good deal. Despite all that, S6 battery will not be as good as S7 simply because, and faster charging is still nice for sleep tracking, emergency tap up and such.

I guess one thing I did not think about is the fact that S7, even if I keep it, will have newer tech (or at least updated) so that it won't need replacing sooner than S6 would. Thanks for your input all!

Depends on whether you're a person who's willing to sacrifice the "newest" to save some money, or whether you're a person who is willing to spend more for the "newest". Either is valid, and only you know the right answer for you.

assuming your focus is the health features and you likely will want an upgraded watch as soon as a year from now (i bet next year has sensor updates) then your plan is solid... IF you can find an S6 for sale somewhere (Apple is out) then getting a S8/S9 in the future.

if you think there is a chance you will want to just buy ONE watch and use it for 3-4+ years before getting another than I'd for sure get the S7 if only because it also has the bigger screen, faster charging etc. that will now be "standard" going forward.

Thanks all for your input. Now I'm leaning toward S7. I think it's a wise move considering it'll be my 1st AW, it has the most up-to-date tech and, if/when I do decide to upgrade, I will be able to use it without fear that it won't work in 3-4 years time. Want to see the colors before pre-ordering though.
