so my Series 7 just hit 79% Battery Health and the Service recommended bubble appeared so I opened up an appointment the Genius Bar for 4pm today.

I have Apple Care plus monthly on this watch exactly for this issue to come up.

my question for others is will they clear the watch and send it in for battery service (it is in perfect condition) without a fight or will they say it is too close to 80%??

what should I expect???

It's 80% based on their diagnostic tool, not based on what the watch says. But since 79% is less than 80%, you should expect it to go fine. No need to overthink it.

dumb question, why do this at 79%? why not 70%? what's so magical about 80%?
Not dumb!

Apple considers (well we will see if Apple's service bay gets the same numbers) the battery below 80% a service recommended condition and under the Apple care plus they will do a battery service (replace the watch as apple considers it to be a consumable) for free...

well....they ran diagnostics on the watch and it came up with the same service recommended that I got. So if things go well, I should be getting a new watch by the end of the week. Fingers crossed.
With AC+ you can also get an express replacement, so contact them online, do the diagnostics thing, they send you a refurb and you turn your watch in after you receive the new one ... but if you're happy to be w/out your watch for a few days

I'm lucky as I keep my older watches (trade in value is too low for me) I have a Series 9 & Series 3 as a backup...

Yea, I have an Ultra 2 and a S7 Ti and battery health has been sitting at 82% for a while, I will go month to month on AC+ til the battery is below 80 … my closest Apple Store is about an hour away, so I will do the express replacement. Good to have options

I don't believe they send you a new watch except in case of physical damage. They're just going to replace the battery and send in the same unit back.

They do not return the same watch.
Are you sure? Cuz I’m fairly certain express replacement is reserved for physical damage.

Even for iPhones’ front glass damage they just replace the screen for $25 unless you’re willing to pay the whole $99 which is the only way you can request a replacement.

A Series 7 Apple Watch isn’t eligible for a repair, those get replaced.

Express Replacement is available in situations where a repair is necessary, but it is not limited to physical damage.

I just had my S6 replaced under AppleCare+ for depleted battery and I received a remanufactured new watch, not the original I sent in. The new watch had a completely different serial number. Apple doesn't repair watches, they replace them. Been like that forever.

Interesting. Always thought the battery gets replaced but the entire unit gets replaced for everything else.
Thanks for the info!

Lucky! and it’s nice to hear this story, sounds like you’ll get a fresh battery and a new screen too. I‘d have loved to do that but my S7 was at 83% and i got tired of the 2x a day charging or more, so traded it in for $105 off a S10… which is nice and all but i’d be fine with my S7 all over again if it were eligible. Oh well. Enjoy your new S7 when it arrives! you aren’t missing anything major, in my opinion vs, s8, 9, 10, etc.

This has never happened with apple watches. They are not a repairable product, always a replacement.
This was true in the past but is no longer the case. Depending on the model, some units mailed in for service will receive a standalone battery replacement. Series 7 is not an eligible model.

My Watch is a Series 6 and my battery health decreased to 78%. 🤨
I can’t affirm it’s related to these 11.2 betas.

I just got my series 6 replaced under AC. I used it for 4 years and the new replacement is great, I will probably push upgrading to ultra by a year or two.

My S7 on AC+ has been stuck at 80% for about 6 months now! Did you notice how long it took to drop that final 1%? Without wishing to sound conspiratorial, it does seem to have dropped steadily and then hung for months at 80% which happens to be the AC+ replacement threshold…it’s reassuring to hear that yours actually did drop and they’re replacing it!

Why is it « great »? Because the battery lifetime is much better than with the « old » battery?

All literature available online plus Apple Support as well as Apple Specialists in store all say Apple doesn't repair watches. When you have it serviced regardless of type of repair you will receive a remanufactured watch. Unless you can provide an official source for your claim, I see no reason to believe otherwise..
