Currently rocking a 45mm Series 7 SB TI and held off getting a Ultra as felt the series 7 felt better

Waited a year and would have jumped over to an Ultra 2 if black.

I'm now on the fence, the 3000 nits screen and my slightly aging series 7

I just wish they had made it slightly more of a must buy, it still doesn't feel enough and with the possibility of a Watch X redesign next year I might have to wear for another year

Out of interest how much stronger is the screen on the Ultra compared to the series 7 sapphire ?

I believe the glass itself is the same, but the Ultra has the slight Ti bezel that would offer stronger protection in a drop scenario (the biggest weakness of sapphire).

I have the SBTi 7 too, I recently had an Ultra for a week to test with it, there was not much difference in the screen brightness in sunlight but obviously the U2 will be brighter. I didn’t like the bulk or the action button either (prsonnal preference). I will replace the battery in my 7 as it has collapsed to 82% health and wait for either the 10 or 11 series.
The flat screen is better to glance at though as the S7 has those distracting reflections from the curved edges.

I have a S7 Ti and the Ultra, screen for both is advertised as Sapphire but normal AW screen sits on top of the case and Ultra sits within that bezel and is flat.
As to which is stronger, don't really know, but Ultra is rated for recreational diving so the body must be able to withstand more pressure.
Also, there were plenty reports last year of people trying to break the Ultra screen with hammers, vehicles etc, some front page stories on MR if I recall.

I have never once thought that my Ultra’s display wasn’t bright enough. Aside from it being a better flashlight, I can’t imagine what is gained by an even brighter display.

After a year, my Ultra’s glass is pristine. Not only do I not baby it, I’ve been in the garden, elbow deep in the dirt pulling up Bermuda grass roots on more than one occasion. The titanium around the display is a bit shinier and uneven than when new, but only if you look for such imperfections.

Not long after it was released, a bunch of people made videos trying to damage the Ultra. One has it being dragged behind a car at speed, sparks flying; it only eventually started to show damage after repeatedly being flung against a rounded metal post.

In other words, if an Ultra gets damaged while it’s on your wrist, the condition of the watch will pale in comparison with the challenges of living with an amputated limb.

In general, I recommend against “wait to buy” strategies unless the wait is short. Is whatever improvement you might gain by waiting really worth being 100% without it in the mean time? Besides which, if your fears are realized, all you’re out is the inconvenience and cost of upgrading early — a rather small price to pay, all things considered.

For what it’s worth … if I was going to buy a new watch today, it’d be the Ultra 2 (unless I could find a good deal on the original), but I’m not even remotely interested in upgrading. The other “big” change is the upgraded CPU, but I’ve also never felt that the watch was slow.
