Hi Guys,

Torn between getting a Jet Black S10 or a SS S9 which will soon be heavily discounted.

I love the jet black but worried how it’ll hold up scratch wise.

What would you do?

Since it's all appearance from your post, I would opt to save a few $$$. Given your selfie photo, you will go with the new jet black!
Enjoy!

I’ve owned 1 aluminum watch and it didn’t hold up well at all. It had micro scratches all over the screen after a year and a deep scratch in the middle of the screen that I could see all the time. After that I’ve owned 3 SS models and after 2 years the screen has been flawless. For me, I would much rather have the series 9 SS for the sapphire screen.

Similar to @mjpearce023 I owned two aluminum models, both quickly had scuffs to the casing and to a lesser extent the screen which bugged me the rest of the time I owned them. Switched to stainless steel (and titanium) for later models and were pristine when I upgraded a couple years later.

So if it were me, I won't own an aluminum apple watch. YMMV. I do a lot of DIY projects around the house and vehicles and and as a bit of a klutz I do smack my wrist into doorways and doorknobs on occasion. I don't want a watch I have to cover up, take off, or worry about banging into stuff.

I’ve had pretty good luck with my 2 yr old aluminum model, BUT I’m super careful. My next will be a titanium model for the better screen. Given the choice you presented I’d go for the SS. One thing to consider is Beat Buy is doing a pretty aggressive deal with trade in on the 10. If you have a recent model you might be able to get the best of both worlds.

I have both a SS S9 and a Alum S9. I play pickleball and cycle, so I don't want to wear my nice SS watch doing these activities that could really damage them. Yes, I occasionally hit the deck, or run into a fence. LOL So, I use a cheaper Alum watch that I usually get at a discount for the rough stuff and for sleeping.

However the SS is great for everything else. For most folks, if you have to pick just one of the watches, I'd go for the SS. The crystal stays cleaner imo, and is more durable, and it's a better looking watch. And, it comes with cellular which you may decide to use one day.

I am trading in the Alum S9, for the Alum Jetback S10. Bestbuy gave me $300 for it which is about what I originally paid, and I got to keep the nike band that I like. 👍🏼 IF it weren't for the great trade-in amount, I would have kept the Alum S9. The S9 is still a great watch.

That’s funny, I was thinking about keeping my series 7 SS just for pickleball 😁
