Ok so i was having trouble backing up a dvd with handbreak (Macbook pro lion ver 10.7.5, handbreak ver 0.9.8). I managed to solve that problem. That problem being that my drives region was set incorrectly according to the one set on the dvd (when i inserted the dvd, before it could play, i was prompted to a window telling me to change the region. Damn, i knew i should have taken a screen shot). I thought "well why don't i set it correctly. What region does it say it currently is on?..... 6? Wait, that's Chaina. Im in the U.S., fine change it to 1."
So my question is, what is the default region on the Macbook Pro so that i can change it back and never touch it again. Was it 6? I know that i never touched any of that, and i haven't even had my Macbook for a year yet. I know i have a set number of times before it gets locked on the lates region. Not even VLC was able to play it. Which is weird, shouldn't that be play dvd's no matter the region? I
Just want to know so i have an idea when/if it happens to my cousin's Macbook Pro.

Edit: Ok after some more research (found this https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2461720?threadID=2461720
and also this: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/332285/ ), i found out that this was not supposed to happen. And that it was sort of already posted here. The regions should have been set to 1 since the beginning. Which i find odd since i bought it brand new. Now im worried and don't know what i should do. Still really confused that VLC and Handbreak couldn't read it until i changed the region to 1 (my only options were 1 and 4. 0 is free right?).
