I'm running Mail 5 under Lion, and recently, as in, since I upgraded to Lion, my primary Gmail account has been experiencing problems with outgoing messages. First, it would say that the security certificate for this account, and no others, is wrong, preventing the message from leaving my drafts folder. Then, I started changing a bunch of settings both on my Mac's end and on Gmail's end, including trying turning POP and IMAP on and off, removing the account from Mail's account list, and pretty much everything else I could think of. But now it's worse. When I tried to put my account back into Mail, it kept saying that my password couldn't be verified; so now I can't even get incoming mail.
Any help, tips, solutions, are greatly appreciated.

easiest way: Start over

Empty the account, and start over again. I had issue with my gmail regarding the password verification before, and solved it by refill everything. It's easier if you choose the imap, and let mail to do the rest for you.

I'm afraid I don't understand what you mean by "empty the account."
