I checked the edu pricing and I like it. Is there anything preventing me from purchasing thru that channel? I AM a student of life :) I got to the cart without anything asking me for proof but maybe that would have been next. Figure it could not hurt to ask. Thanks.

Apple could ask for verification before completing the purchase, although from reading many comments here, Apple probably won't do that but, there is always the chance.
Wowsa, fast response, thanks! Yeah, I guess I could try it, assuming that I had made my FINAL decision to purchase :)

I didn't have to verify my student status in the apple education store, but funny enough, I did have to when I subscribed to the Apple Music student plan.

They won't ask for any verification, they are too busy as it is. If you do in store pick up by the time the item is in store and ready for you, you have already been charged they are not going to check and "refund". All this is assuming you are in the US, I don't know about other countries.

If you have it shipped, then you are 100% in the clear, how are they going to check on you?

And no, as of now they have absoluetely nothing in their system that is going to ask for verification like verify.ID. Maybe in the future, but as for now? Nope.

I was at the Apple store yesterday ready to buy the 15in Macbook Air, but then i compared it with the 14 in Macbook pro and realized it was literally almost the same price once i added 8gb ram and 256gb more space to it..

The 14in macbook pro has 16gb ram and 512gb ssd as stock

The 15in macbook air has a pathetic 8gb ram and 256gb ssd as stock.

If I upgraded the macbook air to 16gb and 512gb ssd, it's only like a $300 difference between them

I get a 3x faster and way more powerful cpu and gpu, with better display, sound, hdmi port, sd card reader

It was a no brainer for me, so I chose the 14 in macbook pro in the end lol.

And also, scrolling at 60hz was pretty choppy when i compared to scrolling on the mbp at 120hz

This is what keeps gnawing at me also
When the price gets that close, one really has to start looking at the much better components overall of the MBPs

If they would have allowed for a "purchase the better screen" option on the MBA 15, I would pony up for that .. as the screen tech is the most compelling of all the things that are better on an MBP vs MBA

Funny. I went to the Apple Store to purchase mine. The rep asked me if I was a student and I said no, but my wife is. He gave me the discount anyways.

You don’t have to be a student, you can be a parent or homeschool teacher to be eligible. In those cases, there would be no proof available. That’s why Apple doesn’t ask for verification.

It depends on what matters to you.

For many prople the extra performance of the processors is not important to what they do. Having a bigger screen, lighter weight, and better battery might be. For many of us, the difference between the 60Hz screen and the 120Hz screen is hard to see and only when they are side by side. If you are using the 60Hz all the time, it’s fine. Also, for some people, that $300 is a big difference.

Those differences are why Apple makes both the MBA and the MBP because not all customers have the same needs.

I’ve tried to tell this about 60 vs 120 to so many people, and it falls on deaf ears. I worked in post production technology for ten years and I can hardly tell the difference. I absolutely love my MBA 15 inch.

I saw the same thing. Returned the 15" MBA and went for the 14" MBP with 16gb/1tb ssd. With those specs and the slight difference in cost, the MBP was a no brain

Exactly right. Me too. Turned in the 15" MBA for a souped up 14" MBP refurb on the Apple website.

No way I would buy a 15" air for reasons above, also had 2 x 13" one was ok, 2nd had light bleed, even the good one was sub par to look at with low brightness, grey blacks. If you are just using for email and browsing sure.
The second one I got near new for $1KAUD so $900 off retail and still sold it.

You are asking random people on the internet for what, permission, to buy some product. 🤦‍♂️
oy vey, student of life is right.
Yup. Pretty much what every single other person on this forum does :) "Should I get blue or red? Should I get 8GB or 16GB? Etc. On and on, ad infinitum. Welcome to MacRumors.
