I would calm down just a little.

Multiple sites are reporting different things so just wait until tomorrow to see what is happening.

Agreed, wait till tomorrow.
But you could take it in a positive spin... maybe the 17" is an even better bump of specs or design.

True, but i swore to myself that i wouldn't update to a new 17" until they released a quad-core system. (just watch they're going to release one tomorrow and i go farther into debt).

For a few reasons I'm feeling we can't be so demanding of Apple in terms of timely spec upgrades. Apple is still keeping half it's mind focused on form factor and design (which I think is great, but I'd like to see them try a real engineering performance marvel in a laptop) and is compensating on performance. So upgrades are slow and late (this one has taken a really long time).

So just go with what comes out instead of waiting another 6-8 months is what I'd say.

It's happened before where some models have been updated and others not for months, certainly not beyond the realms of possibility by any means.

Anyone have any sales numbers for the 17-inchers? Based on some surveys I've done, my guess is that it's less than 5 percent of the total number of notebooks sold. Granted, it's a very high-profit-margin portion of the market, but I can certainly understand why Apple would initially want to focus on larger portions of the marketplace.

The 17" MBP will now be called the MacBook Pro "Classic". :p

Hopefully, if it is not announced they can at least toss us a bone with a better HD and more RAM in the current model. Or at least a price cut.

One report had them delayed due to some bugs in particular the OD.

Sorry, what does OD stand for?

It seems fairly definite at this point

They didn't update the 17" when they switched to Intel processors, either. That came out a couple of months later.

Right, but when they switched to Intel, there wasn't a case redesign. I don't know; it just seems strange to me that a company as concerned with aesthetics as Apple would be announcing, "Updates and redesign for the entire MacBook line!!! Oh, except for our 17-inch MacBook Pro which we've left with the old design, so that it now sticks out like a sore thumb."

Whatever, this is just my excellent luck, I guess

At least, the 17" one got the hi-res LED screen options standard.
(as I recently looked at the Online Store)

looks like the specs are the same to me, I just got on the canadian store and beside the new mbps was the old 17", same processor, same GPU, new hard drive options.
