Hi there,
I have been reading a long time and am after some advice.
I have currently moved from a windows vista desktop to the MacBook Pro and am struggling on what set up to go regards back up and file server.
What I want to achieve is a file server on one hard disk to store all music and photos so they can be served to all my apple devices and run itunes so I can turn off my macbook.
Secondly on another hard disk have a local backup using time machine.
My current equipment is as follows
Ipad Air
Ipad Mini
2 iphones
MacBook Pro
I think I have discounted nas boxes such as a synology due to having to have the macbook on all the time to serve up itunes.
I considered turning my old windows pc in to a hackintosh as it is a core 2 duo but the bios restrictions make it difficult.
The two further options were windows home server 2011/windows 8pro or buying a Mac mini but am not sure of the options now
Budget is open as for the right option would buy. Any ideas on how best to achieve what I want?
Thanks for any help/advice.
