Server connection/download problems help

Not sure why this is happening but all of a sudden, when I try to download files at home using Firefox, or if I try to check my work email when using Entourage, I get the spinning beach ball for a while and then it tells me that it can't connect to a server address from my office. Once it gives the the message it will then connect via wifi and download normally. How can I stop it from trying to connect to a server that I am not even using?
