those data servers were for iCloud. They aren't going to shut iCloud down to facilitate iPhone preorders

Honestly, I say there is about a 90% chance its gonna crash or bog down horribly.

The MBP-Retina launch in June crashed, and this isn't even in the same ballpark in size of launch.

I would love a 1.5-2 hour ordeal! When I tried to preorder the iPhone 4, it took over twelve hours, including a break to sleep for two hours and go to a movie.

Retina MacBook Pro launch crashed? I must have gotten lucky, apart from the lack of getting my Back-to-school card, it was smooth for me.

I would expect Apple to have more in stock = more chances of getting one.

As others have said, Apple will crash, and crash HARD.

Then some orders will get through but there won't be confirmation e-mails sent. That will be round 2 of the panic where people aren't sure whether to order again or not because they haven't received confirmation e-mails.

The chaos will last at least 12 hours.

In my opinion Apple will take all it's server capacities and transfer it to the US customers. Like they did with the iPad 3. Europeans are f*cked up and have to wait.
