Do you think Apple will be able to handle all the load this time since they spent so much money on those data centers?

I'm already staying up late enough, don't want to go to bed around 4 AM...

No, it's gonna crash, and crash hard.

those data servers were for iCloud. They aren't going to shut iCloud down to facilitate iPhone preorders

:\ I hope I'm not staying up for nothing. Sleep these days is a treat when you have a 10 week old and a three year old.

I really hope so. If there are problems then I'm staying up all night. I know that if it happens more than a few times I'll freak out so I'll smoke a bowl while I wait to calm myself in case anything happens.

One would hope, but I'm expecting a 1.5-2 hour ordeal.

I would love a 1.5-2 hour ordeal! When I tried to preorder the iPhone 4, it took over twelve hours, including a break to sleep for two hours and go to a movie. :D

Honestly, I say there is about a 90% chance its gonna crash or bog down horribly.

The MBP-Retina launch in June crashed, and this isn't even in the same ballpark in size of launch.

Retina MacBook Pro launch crashed? I must have gotten lucky, apart from the lack of getting my Back-to-school card, it was smooth for me.

As others have said, Apple will crash, and crash HARD.

Then some orders will get through but there won't be confirmation e-mails sent. That will be round 2 of the panic where people aren't sure whether to order again or not because they haven't received confirmation e-mails.

The chaos will last at least 12 hours.

Luckily I'm in Hawaii. It will only be 9pm here. Hopefully my order goes in by midnight. I have a meeting at 7am

This is while I'm probably ordering from Verizon...last year the Apple servers where down for like 45 minutes with Verizon I was in bed at 3:10am

In my opinion Apple will take all it's server capacities and transfer it to the US customers. Like they did with the iPad 3. Europeans are f*cked up and have to wait.
