In recent weeks I've had a regular but intermittent, issue with Firefox almost instantly loading a 'Server not found' page on both of our Macs. It also happens with Safari - loading a 'you are not connected' page.
It'll often happen on major sites (Google, eBay, Facebook, etc). Shift-refresh just reloads the unavailable page, whilst in other tabs other sites will load and browse fine.
And whilst this is happening, p2p seems fine.
I'm assuming it's caused by my p2p connection consuming too much of the available bandwidth, but that doesn't fully explain it - as previously things would just be a bit slow as the browsers would simply try for awhile and then deliver the 'Server not found' page.
And surely the shift-refresh should avoid reloading a cached page?
A search shows others have had similar problems in recent years, but none of the suggested fixes has been of use.
I've wondered if this might be a dns issue with my Isp (Virgin)?
And yes, I'm aware I could restrict the p2p bandwidth - but this often happens when it's already lowered.
