I have a late 2016 MacBook Pro (non touch bar) with a battery cycle count of 217. Today I noticed I am getting the 'Service Battery' warning. I've been using Macs for years and have never experienced this before. In truth, I thought they were supposed to last for upwards of 1,000 cycles?

Has anyone else experienced this? I am advised that there is a Service Program for this particular MacBook, but when I enter my serial number it tells me I'm not eligible. Possibly because I bought it from Apple Refurbished, so I'm guessing it's already been replaced?

Here is everything you need to know about your battery service:

https://support.apple.com/mac/repair/service
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204054

Your battery is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity at 1000 complete charge cycles. Apple will replace it under warranty. But since your warranty is probably expired, replacement costs $199. Take it to an Apple Store or Apple-authorized service provider as soon as possible.

I had exactly that on my 2012 air after installing Catalina, resetting the smc cleared the warning for me, I only had 220 cycles on mine too, Apple store didn't want to know though
