I have an aging mid-2012 MBA (13", 8GB, 256GB) that still gets the job done, but now is telling me "Service Battery". I notice that the battery doesn't last near as long as it used to, and the computer struggles once it gets down to around 20%. Then all of a sudden it will shutdown, even though it claims there is plenty of battery left.
I am wondering if this is something serviceable (way out of AppleCare years), or if it would not make sense to put more money into this computer and start looking for a replacement. The new MBA is tempting, though the MBP-no touch bar for $100 more seems interesting. Is the processor in the MBP significantly better than the new MBA or are they comparable? Otherwise, they have similar screens, keyboards and ports, and the size/weight difference is not drastic. But if the processors are comparable, I would lean towards the MBA for the slightly smaller size, newer keyboard, and TouchID.
Thoughts?
