I just replaced the battery on my 12inch 2017 MacBook. It stated it has 700 cycles and the battery lasted less than 3 hours.

I bought a battery on eBay and just replaced it. It was easier than I thought.

Anyways, upon putting the screws back together and turning the MacBook on under both the battery pane on the menu bar and under system info it said, ‘Service Recommended’ even though the cycle count said 1.

The battery itself upon first turning on once installed said it was at 50%.

Im charging It now to 100% so I could then start using it.

I’m really just glad it finally has a new battery installed and can take it on long trips and rely on it cause before it would always die within an afternoon or after watching a few episodes of Netflix.

You need to reset the SMC (System Management Controller). Resetting the SMC will help the MacBook correctly recognize the new battery.

Do this:
  • Shut down your MacBook.
  • Hold Shift + Control + Option (left side) and the Power button for 10 seconds.
  • Release all keys and then turn the MacBook on again.

That worked! Thank you. No longer says Service Recommended and battery health comes in at double capacity what the previous old capacity read in the prior degraded battery.
