Can anyone tell me why all the services are grayed out all the time? Even the contents of Grab are grayed out, and they shouldn't be grayed out under any context IMHO.

After selecting text, most of the menu becomes active, but the items under Grab are still grayed. Frankly, that's the only item I care about. Why is it gray?

The menu is context-sensitive. I'm not sure what the Grab service does, but you have to be in a place where it works in order to use it.
