So we all know that we can set a custom text tone for contacts, but what about a sender (eg. a business) that has a named or alphanumeric sender ID? If we get an SMS from (212) 555-6789, you can save that as a Contact and set a custom text tone. But if we get an SMS from ACME INC, you can't save that as a Contact, so what options do I have?

Quick background. My organisation has some systems that might send out the occasional text message after hours (with named sender ID) and we need to remote in to work and address the issue. If this were a phone call, we would wake up but you could sleep through a quick text tone. So I was hoping to set a loud/annoying tone but just for these messages rather than for all messages. I was wondering if a specific text tone could be set for an overnight focus mode, but it doesn't seem like it. So, do I have any options at all?

Shortcuts might work.

There is an Automation for "when message arrives". Can specify a text value for sender or "message body contains...". And then use the Play Sound action: add a sound file to the phone that is some loud, obnoxious audio and get and pass that to the Play Sound action. Quick scan did not turn up any way to use stock alarm tone.

Or, same basic logic but have a Set Alarm set for 30 seconds after message arrives. Alarm will default to last used tone for an alarm (again, quick scan does not show how to specify a tone in Shortcuts).

I'll give it a go, not convinced this will work. If we could save text to a phone number field in the Contacts app, then that would allow me to choose a specific Text Tone.

I had some luck saving text senders as email (without the @) in contacts and it used to work in previous IOS versions, but doesn’t anymore
