Set Google maps for applications

I am using a journal application and when I'm trying to select my current location, it opens up Apple maps inside the app. Apple maps got nothing in my country so I want it to be Google Maps. I have installed MapOpener but that doesn't open Google Maps inside the app. Is there are a workaround for this? Is it possible? Thanks.

Do you have an option in settings for this app like with Safari you can choose which default search engine?

I don't think it can change the default map inside 3rd application.

As far as I know and have tried on my iPhone, it works like a charm.
