Set up Additional Photo Album

Hi, first of all, i do not sync my iPhone with iTunes as i use different apps to manage my music and photos.

I would like to be able to create an additional photo album other than "Camera Roll" on my iPhone 3GS. Is this possible to do without having your photos synced with iTunes
 
I have even tried creating an additional folder on my desktop and syncing my iPhone with this folder on iTunes... but nothing has happened... can anyone help... apple have left out so many simple functions... i really do not understand it
