I am part of the annual upgrade program and am upgrading from my XS Max to an 11 Pro Max. My AT&T account is part of my company's group account and they pay the bill monthly and I buy the phone. In years past (and this year) I have been unable to process my upgrade getting an error message saying that phones on corporate accounts are not eligible for the AUP. In years past I have activated a new pre-paid line for a month just so that I can process the upgrade. After doing so I cancel the account and insert my AT&T SIM and all is good.

This year to avoid the cost/hassle of activating a new account I used my wife's TMobile SIM to process the upgrade and that worked fine.

My question is can I just insert my AT&T SIM into the new phone when it arrives and activate it or will I need to activate it with my wife's SIM and then switch over?

She too is getting a new 11 ProMax today and I don't want to screw up her new phone by just opening the box on my phone and activating to what will likely be her number.

Appreciate any insight.

I'm in the same boat...work pays the phone bill I pay for the phone. I'm on Verizon but I had to activate with the sim card that shipped in the phone and then swap the SIM cards once it activated. I'm not sure if its the same for other carriers...
