I need to move a load of files from my os x mac to a vista PC on the same network.

No familiarity with the sharing tools in os x myself, would appreciate any pointers

thanks

ok it says Other users can access shared folders on this computer, and administrators all volumes, at afp://192.xxx.x.x/

where do i enter that in vista?

I don't know enough about Vista, but my guess is under "my network places" you should see the shared folder. Make sure that file sharing is enabled in Windows, too - and make sure the firewall is setup for it.

in Vista, right click the folder you want to share. Thee should be a sharing option in the menu. once successful you should have a little hand underneath the folder on the desktop.

First off you can not access an AFP from Vista. You need to enable Windows file sharing on your Mac.

Here is a very thorough guide for Leopard to Vista
Here are two guides you will need to use for Vista to Tiger and Tiger to Vista fix

Unlike XP MS added some annoying new features to Vista making file sharing much more difficult than in XP. I use XP, tried Vista for a while and hated it. Anyways you may need to do some editing to get file sharing to work because of the changed protocols. This may have been fixed though.
To enable Windows Vista to connect to Mac OS X with Windows File Sharing enabled, you will need to change the following policy in Windows Vista:

1. Click the Start Orb, type gpedit.msc into the Start Search field, and press Enter

Click the Continue button on the User Account Control prompt.
This will launch the Group Policy Object Editor for the Local Computer Policy.

2. In the Group Policy Object Editor, expand:

-> Computer Configuration
-> Windows Settings
-> Security Settings
-> Local Policies
-> Security Options
3. Open the 'Network security: LAN Manager authentication level' policy and change the Security Setting to:

Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated

4. Click the OK button to save changes, and then close the Group Policy Object Editor.
